NBC News Twitter Account by Script Kiddies, Falsely Reports Attack at Ground Zero

Oh, those crazy hackers are at it again. This evening, a group of hackers accessed the NBC News Twitter account and posted messages stating that there had been a terrorist attack at Ground Zero in New York City.

The group that hacked the account was a group called the Script Kiddies, which is thought to be an offshoot of renowned hacker group Anonymous. They posted three messages about a hijacked plane hitting the Ground Zero site just before 6 p.m. EDT.

NBC issued has just issued a statement confirming the hack and says it is “working with Twitter to correct the situation and sincerely apologize for the scare that could have been caused by such a reckless and irresponsible act.”

The Twitter accounts for both NBC News and The Script Kiddies were suspended shortly after the incident.

The Script Kiddies, as you may recall, were also suspected in a similar hacking attempt back in July, when they took over the Fox News Twitter account and tweeted that President Obama had been killed.
